Meet The Expert

Dr. Carmela picture

Dr. Carmela Tartaglia M.D., FRCPC

Dr. Tartaglia is a clinician-scientist at the University Health Network and University of Toronto. She maintains a cognitive/behavioral clinic within the UHN Memory Clinic and PSP Rossy Centre where she sees patients with neurodegenerative diseases including PSP and those with multiple concussions who are at risk of developing a neurodegenerative disease. In trying to bring precision medicine to patients with PSP and CBS, Dr. Carmela Tartaglia leads a multi-modal biomarker program whose aim is to improve diagnostic accuracy and prognostication with patients who want to know what they have – and how they will fare in the future. Dr. Tartaglia and her team combine clinical, biofluid and imaging biomarkers they hope will answer these questions. The goal of her research program is to develop biomarkers for early detection of disease to bring precision medicine and targeted, early treatments to her patients.

Her credentials are as follows:

  • Marion and Gerald Soloway Chair in Brain Injury and Concussion Research

  • Associate Professor, Tanz Centre for Research in Neurodegenerative Diseases, University of Toronto

  • Co-director Memory Clinic - Toronto Western Hospital
